WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Harding freshman forward Chelsea Brandon scored four goals in a 25-minute span Friday to lead the Lady Bisons to a 5-0 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State in non-conference women's soccer action.
It was Harding's third straight win and lifted the Lady Bisons' record to 4-3. Southwestern Oklahoma State fell to 2-5 and suffered its third shutout in five games against Harding.
Brandon, a native of Arlington, Tenn., began her scoring onslaught in the 16th minute with co-freshman Jackie Anthony providing the first of three assists. Brandon struck again in the 23rd, 24th and 40th minutes. Anthony had the second assist with Minnie Guzman assisting the third and Meghan Przeczewski the fourth.
Brandon became only the fourth Lady Bison to score four or more goals in a game and joined Kendyl Washburn as only the second Harding player to score four goals in a half. Washburn scored four in the second half last season in a 6-1 victory over Christian Brothers.
Anthony's third assist came on a 58th minute goal by Kyra LeCocq, her second of the season. It was only the ninth time a Harding player had three or more assists in a game and the first since current Lady Bison Kellie DeAtley had three last season against Christian Brothers.
Harding junior goalkeeper Chelsea Hornbeck made one save in the first half and two more in the second half for her first shutout of the season and 10th of her career.
The Lady Bisons dominated possession in the game, outshooting the Bulldogs 18-8, including 13-2 in the first half.
Harding plays its second game in Weatherford, Okla., on Sunday against Central Oklahoma.
